Aoshima continues its Real Science Spacecraft Model series with this detailed kit of the Lunar Orbiter Spacecraft SELenological and ENgineering Expolorer, or SELENE.
Better known in Japan by its nickname Kaguya after the legendary Japanese moon princess, it was the second Japanese lunar orbiter spacecraft. The spacecraft was launched on September 14, 2007. After successfully orbiting the moon for a year and eight months, the main orbiter was intentionally crashed onto the lunar surface near the Gill lunar crater on June 10, 2009. After their successful release its sub-satellites, Rstar and Vstar, were named Okina and Ouna, also derived from characters in the tale.
The kit is comprised of 68 pieces, plus four metal rods for the antennae. Includes a display stand and nameplate. Solar panels are molded in translucent blue plastic (11 pieces).
