The Saturn IB served as test-bed rockets for the larger and more powerful Saturn V that would eventually carry the first humans to the Moon. The first manned Saturn IB flight lifted Apollo 7 into orbit on October 11, 1968 to test the new Apollo craft that would be used for the coming moon flights.
Besides Apollo 7, three fligths were made to the Skylab space station in 1973 and one in 1975 as part of the Apollo-Soyuz program.
